    Objective: identifying known music symbols and reading all formats for the song "Engine, Engine, Number Nine."

    Following five foundation lessons in music theory (symbols/meanings) students identify the music symbols and pitches for the first song they will read looking for patterns in beats, rhythms, pitches - pitches that skip or step on the staff.

    Cross-curriculum: mathematical concepts of division and multiplication for understanding how the notes and rests are named, and the number of beats and measures.

  • 2:31 Reviewing pitches to "Long-Legged" sailor while only looking at the music format (no answers).

    Students read song formats for each song, beats, rhythm, pitches, and then the lyrics. In the video we are reviewing the pitch names without the pitch names being shown as they are in the pitch formats. All the students see is the music. Students gain an understanding that if a line or space is skipped we skip a pitch.
